Movement51 Community Guidelines

Our community Slack channel is a place to connect, learn, and share so we can grow together. To help you understand the purpose and best uses of this community, we have taken the time to put together some guidelines so you can get the most out of this space.

Meet Your Community Manager

Hi, I’m Milli Fox, and I’m your friendly community manager. My aim is to create a welcoming and comfortable environment where you can be yourself and connect deeply with others. Connection is a key ingredient in a fulfilling life and I’m here to create opportunities for you to cultivate more of that in yours.

Code of Conduct

Members of the Movement51 community are open, considerate and respectful. Behaviours that reinforce these values contribute to a positive environment and include:

 Being Open

Members of the community are open to connecting and open to collaboration, whether that be a virtual coffee date, or working on a project!

Being respectful of differing viewpoints and experiences.

We are receptive to others perspectives and know that diversity of opinion and experience contributes to the success of the collective.

Showing empathy towards other community members.

We are attentive in our communications in this space and we are tactful while approaching differing viewpoints.

Using welcome and inclusive language

We are accepting of all who partake in the community, fostering a safe environment where anyone can participate and everyone can make a difference.

Being considerate and graceful.

We consider our peers and when we disagree or see things differently, we are courteous in sharing our perspectives.

Here’s what our community is saying:

The number one piece of feedback we get from our alumni is how vital the community aspect was in their experience in our programs. We aim to amplify and continue that experience long after the programming is complete and to become your go-to space for financially empowering female+ friends.

Taking Part in Discussions

  • Please do not double post — select the best channel for your message and post it only once.

  • Ask your questions in a public channel (instead of DMs) so that others can benefit from the answers.

  • Use threads. They help to keep the discussions more organized.

  • If you want to start a discussion, take it to the next level by sharing your thoughts and have a clear question in your message.

    • Instead of saying “Any thoughts on this?”, you can say: “I just read this interesting article on X, and thought Y, anyone else have thoughts on Y or Z?

  • Please keep your question up, even after you receive an answer. It could help others who might have a similar problem.

Channels

Use a specific channel where possible. For example, instead of using #general for asking a question relevant to the the Investor Lab, use #Investors.

Browse the channels to get to know where your post will be most impactful and engaged with.

  • For community-wide announcements (to be used by the Community Manager or other members of the M51 team).

  • For general discussions .

  • For anyone whos been through the Founder’s Lab program, or has questions relating to being a founder.

  • For anyone who has been through FFIL:IE or has questions relating to angel investing or investing in a fund.

  • Introduce yourself and get to know about other members of the community.

  • Celebrate your wins or celebrate and recognize other members of the community.

Promoting your work is welcome (even encouraged!). If you or your company have been featured in the media or accomplished something cool, this would be the place to share.

  • Ask any questions you may have or ask for support in whatever you may need it with.

If you are looking for votes, likes, or general engagement with something, this would be the place to ask for that.

On the promotional front, messages that ask the community for feedback on your product or a survey of any kind can be posted here.

  • The name says it all: share things you find interesting, inspiring, or relevant (think: articles, social posts, etc), upcoming ecosystem events, and job opportunities or opportunities of any other kind

When looking for colleagues (AKA hiring), to make it easier for others to judge if a position is relevant for them, please mention:

    - City / Country

    - Relocation support

    - Possibility to work remotely

    - Your contact details

    - Link to the job description

*See the Promotion section below for more information about promoting your work

Promotion

Promoting your work is welcome — for both companies and individuals.

We have a few special channels for you to consider:

  • #shareworthylinks - for sharing events coming up, content you find interesting or have created, job postings, social posts, etc.

  • #wins/celebrations - if you or your company have been featured in the media or accomplished something cool, this would be the place to share.

  • #support - if you are looking for votes, likes, or general engagement with something, this would be the place to ask for that. Messages that ask the community for feedback on your product, or a survey of any kind are considered promotional and should be posted here, in #support.

Jobs

If you’re looking for colleagues, use the #shareworthylinks channel.
